RANT: Focus on the Inspiring Aspects of Fashion and Not the Body that Wears It

The unfortunate and honest truth about why fashion inspires me, is because I see beauty involved in all aspects of it and beauty has a tendency to lure others in. Models, designers, events, shows, money, bling. It all encompasses what others wish to possess, be a part of and resemble.

I mean, there are even articles on how it’s been proven that beautiful people get more of the things they want in life. An article written by Business Insider even states that beautiful people are more likely to get hired, make more money and sell more (respectively) than their “less appealing” competition. The fact that this is even a thing truly bothers me, but I can’t help the fact that I’m still staring at them. Staring at the perfect pieces of clothing for the perfect occasion on the perfect body. UGH!

In the pursuit to find confidence in fashion, I believe we focus too much on the human wearing the outfit instead of the outfit itself. Let’s try to put on blinders to the noise, the part that says, have a certain size waist just like the model wearing this dress does, and focus on the other parts of fashion that are also meant to inspire and spark creativity inside us. The fabrics, the concepts, the stitching, the patterns and the overall story and history behind the garment and design is what we really should be focusing on. The endless potential for creativity in fashion, breaking barriers, not following any rules, pushing the envelope, being a part of the CULTURE is what will inspire us to keep pushing forward in this journey of finding our true confidence.

End Rant. Thank you <3
